Evolution of Politics through Social Media

The advancement in technology and the transition in innovative ideas have massive impacts on the global political front. There is a massive transition in the environment mainly with regards to the interaction with politicians due to the active involvement of social media. It has led to the ease in accessibility of votes by the politicians more so in the American political front (Wen-Chun, 2018). Social media has also aided the authoritarian regimes to influence other states democracy resulting in its positives and negative in contemporary society. Social media use by politicians has evolved over time and provided innovative ideas regarding elections and public service. 

Research Progress

My research has taken a great step since I have covered the introductory part of the social media and the critical theories such as muted group, the spiral silence, and media hegemony. Additionally, I have covered the advantages of social media in politics and the United States citizens’ response to technological use in politics.

The article dwells on the positive and negative effects of social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter in political democracy. However, the author dwells on the negative effects of social media on the political front leading to the idea that social media has led to the influx of authoritarian leaders in the global countries. The article targets the entire global societies since the author provides an example of the Brazilian and the American presidents, Jair Bolsonaro and Donald Trump respectively. Stable countries such as China and Russia are using social media platforms to manipulate other developing country’s democracy showing the negative transitions that social media has resulted in, mostly in the political front. The authors observe further that authoritarian regimes apply social media to spread lies about other states leading to the rot in democracy. The article targets every global society more so the developed country and their negative roles in influencing the democracy of the nations. Politics has evolved over the years due to the technological influence in a global society. The source will, therefore, help me in my future research of the influence of media in the political front forming an ideal factor of discussion. Since my research concentrates on social media and political democracy, it will aid in the extensive research on the topic. The article is biased since it focuses on the developed countries regimes.

The article dwells on the influence of online activities such as asocial media on online and online political activities. The author uses the cross-legged design to identify online influence in politics. The research primary targets the youth who are approaching 18 years of age and the already able voters as the main subjects of the explanation. The authors observe that the rate of online usage by the youths has grown tremendously leading to their influence on politics. The authors evaluate the social media influence in raising the campaign funds, access to information, and the mobilization of the individual voters to participate in the elections and campaigns in general.  Since my major research problem is the evolution in the political front due to the advent of social media, it forms a perfect platform for borrowing information that would support my arguments. The article is a perfect representation of the evolution of politics. Since it dwells on youths, it is a platform for the future of American politics. I will use the article as a perfect reference to the youth’s involvement in American politics and how they influence the political patterns. The article is biased since it has not provided the process of training the illiterate to use media to influence politics in American society.

The article dwells on the social media contribution to the American 2016 elections and its evolution in the political front over time. It further points out that social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram have acted as the preferred stages for political marketing and campaigns in the American nation. Such platforms also form interactive changes for voters and political candidates. It is evident from the article that social media was the primary propagator of the 2016 US election since almost 44% of the adults received and followed the US elections news on social media. The author of the article stresses on adults as age factor that has embraced social media in the political setting. The article acts a reference of the social media evolution in politics forming a perfect source for referring to my research problem. It confines the reader to the United States leading to bias. I will apply the article in the explanation of the change of that has been realized in the political front in the United States. I will further use the information the American elections, to understand the influence of social media innovations in the global political stage. The author does not provide an in-depth explanation of social media on global protocol making it difficult for the widespread perception of social media.
